I’m Sydney Helmuth, a communications professional who believes that storytelling shapes how people understand the world. Whether it’s research, policy, or public-health information, the way a message is told determines how audiences receive it, interpret it, and decide what to do with it.
I’m currently studying Public Relations and Political Science at the University of Oregon, with a minor in Public Health. In my role as a Student Communications Assistant in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, I translate complex academic work into clear, accessible stories. I also draft newsletters, write feature pieces about university research, create social media content, and support a large website accessibility project focused on making information easier for everyone to navigate and understand. That work has reinforced my commitment to communication that is both inclusive and focused on real-world impact.
Before that, I worked as a Press Intern for U.S. Senator Mark Kelly, where I learned how fast information moves in political spaces and how important clarity and tone are when speaking to the public. I’ve also worked in social media roles at SOLVE and the Daily Emerald, where I helped shape content that connected communities to causes, events, and news.
Across all my work, I just want to make complicated ideas easier to understand and easier to care about. If you would like to connect with me, feel free to email me at sydney.helmuth812@gmail.com.
